Two New Videos

Drew Jones has produced another two excellent videos of racing at the club. Check out the Videos page.

1/12th Scale National - Round 2

Thanks to all the club members who helped out over the weekend with track build, scruitineering and track dismanteling. The notables were Matt Pearton, Lee Campbell, Andy Bell, Steve Stanton, Keith Aldridge (who supplied and built the tower), Paul Taylor and Tim Cartwright.

The meeting was a great success for the club and was generally well recieved. The track was good and it held together very well. The meeting ran pretty smoothly and the facitilies were thought to be good.

Change to Minimum weight for Touring Cars

As was agreed at our AGM, our rules for the mimimum weight of the touring car classes would mirror the changes made at the BRCA AGM.

As the BRCA has changed to 1350g, we will change immediately to this weight for both Touring Car classes.

Carpet Upgrade

Andy has agreed a deal with the organisers of the 1/12th Euros to buy their Prima GT carpet once they have finished with it.

This means once we have the new carpet the fluff issue will be consigned to history, and the carpet will be easier to lay and roll up. It will be heavy though.

AGM

Details of what happened at the AGM can be found here.

Generally there was a lot of concensus over the proposals and the meeting was very productive. Thanks to Stumpy for bringing extra cakes and to Giles for not eating them all.

19/09/09

Extra Piping

Andy has bought a lot of extra piping so that we have enough for the 1/12th National and screwed in the joining blocks. We now have more than enough to completely enclose the track.

Andy, Giles, Keith A, Mark S and myself were involved in the work party to tape the ends of the joining blocks for all the piping which should make slotting them together a bit easier.

28/06/09

New Track Marker Joiners

The latest new track upgrade are new joiners for the white piping. These joiners sit inside the pipes and are made of wood.

The advantages are threefold. One, they hold the pipes together more firmly meaning the track is less likely to move. Two, they reinforce the vulnerable ends of the pipes greatly reducing the pipe breakages. Three, because they don't protrude at all, car breakages from clipping the joiners will be a thing of the past.

Many thanks to Andy for sorting this out, spending a lot of his time and some woodworking skills for us.

28/06/09

Our First Ever BRCA event...

...was a success. Despite a disappointing turnout (we had to compete against good weather, and other similar types of race meeting). The standard of racing was very high, with a lot of close racing and finishes.

Thanks are due to Andy, Kev and Matt P for making this happen. To Giles, Matt N, Richard and Jordan for putting up and taking down the track. And to Tracy for working as a tealady for us all.

AMB Timing Issue Solved

The problem we've been having with the new lap timing equipment, a background noise issue, has been completely solved by buying a loop with a noise filter built in. This is tested and now works very well.

7/03/09

Pit Tables

The venue now has a large number of pit tables installed, so there's no need to bring your own tables to events.

17/02/09

AMBrc loop installed

We've invested in a brand new AMBrc3 decoder and under-track loop, replacing our old optical system.

The new system allows the use of Personal Transponders PTs and means the transponders can be mounted anywhere inside the car and don't need line of sight anywhere.

We have a few hand-out transponders for those without PTs.

17/02/09

New Video Page

The website now has a video page, currently holding 4 videos. See the link on the left of every page.

If anyone has any more vids of action on the track they'd like to share, please email the webmaster.

New Video on Youtube

Matt Pearton has put in a lot of hard work on this promo video for the club. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRGTTFI-xdg

And it's a corker.

New Velcro for track markers

The purchase of a lot of new velcro has ensured that the track markers now stay in place regardless of how hard you hit them. So the track stays in place all evening.

Off-Road RacingTo Be Relaunched

From September 2008 we will be running off-road racing on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month. The first meeting will be Sept 26th

As always there will be lots of jumps and ramps and the tabletop. We also have buggy friendly track markers and lots of used carpet.

Because the off-roaders will have their own carpet, tyres and motors will be unrestricted.

New Carpet A Success

The new carpet is a major improvement to racing at the club. Grip levels are up, fluff levels are down, and the amount of tape joiners on the track are significantly reduced.

Thanks go to Andy, Matt, Keith and Bob for their hard work in joining carpet, and to Steve for storing and transporting the new rolls.

19/07/08

New Carpet

The days of picking black fluff off your axles is over, for August we should have the whole 14x30m racing area covered in Primatrack and Primafelt carpet. Grip levels and speeds should be up too. I can't wait.

Thanks will go to the working party who will be ironing the carpet together on the 25th.

05/07/08

Doors now open at 7:00pm

Because people seem to have difficulty arriving at 6:30pm, the doors will now open at 7:00pm. We will need people's co-operation in order to get the track built ready for racing at 07:45pm.

23/05/08

With immediate effect, 2wd off-road cars are to be limited to 27 turn brushed or 13 turn brushless motors.

This rule is to try and limit the damage being done to the carpet.

Congratulations to overall winners in 2WD, Craig Harris and 4WD Andy Griffiths.

Andy and Lee go National again

Round 2 of the 12th series at Cippenham on a huge track. At Newbury they do laps in under 7 secs with these cars but at Cippenham the laps were 17 secs long!

Both drivers saw their runs improve as each round progressed with Andy qualifying 55th and Lee 52nd

In the F final Andy emerged from the 1st lap scuffles in 9th with Lee failing to emerge due to a broken spur gear. Andy eventually finished 6th.

Winter Series Championship Starts

The club's winter series has started with the new 1/12th class getting just the 2 runners.

Championship leaders after the first rounds are Rob Raines in 2wd, Mark Tombs in touring and Lee Campbell in 1/12th

06/10/07

Lee Campell and Keith Calder crowned as Champions

The summer series finished yesterday with Lee and Keith running out as champions in Touring Cars and 2WD Buggies respectively.

Going into the final meeting Lee leading Andy Bell, but Andy put him under severe pressure by top qualifying and winning the first final. But Lee held his nerve to win the second final from Andy.

In Buggies, Keith had the title sewn up before racing began, but Giles and Richard made sure that 2nd and 3rd places weren't decided until the end of the final lap of the season. Richard pulled out a win in the 2nd final to just squeak second in the championship.

25/09/07

Lee and Andy go 1/12th National racing

Touring car stalwarts Lee Campbell and Andy Bell entered the 1/12th National round at Milton Keynes at the weekend. Lee had never ran 1/12th in competition and Andy had only run once at Newbury with no opposition.

Qualifying saw Andy 65th and Lee 67th out of 79, both on 36 laps. The top qualifier got a 43. Not a bad start, with some room for improvement!

15/09/07
